Event Information

What can I expect at CMC GRIMP NA? Rescue teams will be assessed on their ability to safely and quickly complete a variety of diverse technical rescue scenarios. Similar to the Grimpday events of Belgium, Taiwan and China, teams must accomplish each rescue within a given set of rules, circumstances and time. Teams will be evaluated on their ability to safely and quickly perform these rescues and garner points during each challenge. How long is the event? The event spans 3 days with check-in on Thursday night, March 28, 2019, 2 days of rescue challenges on the battleship (March 29 and 30), and an award ceremony on Saturday evening March 30, 2019. How many teams will be participating? The event is currently planned to host up to 10 teams. This may be adjusted based on the number of unique scenarios we develop. This will be announced when registration opens. How many rescuers per team? Each team will consist of 7 members; 5 rescuers, 1 victim and 1 evaluator. Is the challenge open to anyone? For reasons of safety, all teams will be pre-qualified based on prior training and professional experience. How do teams register? Qualified teams will be provided with instructions to register. What will the rescue scenarios be like? The scenarios will be diverse and appropriately challenging for the participants. They will include elements of both top down and confined space rope rigging techniques. How will the scenarios be judged? A comprehensive evaluation process will be followed and shared with teams in advance. Teams will receive detailed feedback on their performance for each scenario. Will equipment be provided? Each team participant must bring their own personal gear. To ease the burden of traveling with too much gear, certain larger and heavier items will be provided for the teams on site. These details will be communicated to participants as soon as possible. Are teams required to use certified gear? Yes. All equipment that is independently tested and certified to a recognized standard is acceptable. What does the event cost? The registration fee is $800 per team of 7, and includes refreshments during the event. An award ceremony dinner will be included for participants. Guest tickets are available on a limited basis with priority given to the participating teams. Tickets are $50 per person. Where do you recommend participants stay? CMC has arranged a special group rate for participants at the Crowne Plaza LA Harbor, directly across the street from the harbor and the USS Iowa. More details to come. Are spectators welcome? Spectators are welcome. There are many fun activities in the Los Angeles area for families and friends to enjoy. Further details on opportunities to watch the challenges will be available soon.
